Points at variance in examined T. puquiensis (BBG material in photographs also shown here & also cutting from young seed grown plant from BR; photographs also included)
Clearly looks to be a transverse depression above
the areoles.
There also seems to be at least 2 branches on the BBG
plant with only 6-7 ribs but the photo does not allow for certainty
7 ribs on cutting.
Very light transverse depressions but no distinct
furrow. (It IS swollen above the areole
slightly)
Some areoles have faint and short v-marks.
No areole approaches 1 cm although tip cutting is
still only a couple inches in diameter.
Spines are mostly darker tipped. Some have VERY dark
bases.
New spines are rarely entirely brown- if they are it
is much darker than chestnut colored.
Some do have chestnut brown but this is mostly tips
and a few bases.
There does not usually seem to be one central
directed downward but this is not clear in the photos of BBG material
There seems to be mostly one central spine.
The longest spine is not always placed as a central
but if considering the longest spines to BE centrals then there are mostly 2
per areole.
The longest spine is occasionally directed downward.
