Friedrich Ritter 1981 Kakteen in Sudämerika 4: 1325

This is most likely a variety of Trichocereus pachanoi.

It differs from Trichocereus pachanoi nominally in its spination: 3-6 radial spines, 15-50 mm long, light brown, usually thinner than central; central spines usually absent or present as a single strong and longer spine.

Often, as with Trichocereus pachanoi, all spines are only a few mm long and the areoles are smaller and more closely spaced, also, in that case, the central spines are usually missing.

Blossom was not examined. [Ed.: But is depicted poorly in figure 1187]

Fruit 5 cm long and 4 cm thick, with ample greyer wool.

Seed is without clear difference [from T. pachanoi].

In LLACANORA, near CAJAMARCA grows, in PALLAR and east of the CORDILLERA BLANCA, Depart. Ancash, in heights of ca 2500-3000 m.

No. FR 676.

Fig. 1187.
