    The genus Trichocereus

A list of specific names assigned to or proposed for use within the genus Trichocereus

The genus Trichocereus is now regarded as a subgenus of Echinopsis or else dismissed entirely by many taxonomists.

    Comments on the reunion.

The following is a simple tabular listing of names that have been applied to the Trichocerei and other cacti formerly placed within that former genus.

Photo pages and/or photo links for the listed plants will be steadily added as work progresses towards creating a public access Trichocereus recognition & information guide.

Presence of a name on this list does not indicate it is proper or accepted but simply indicates that plants exist which bear this name or else said names have been proposed for use.

Boldface Echinopsis or other generic names in parenthesis following the names listed as what are presently regarded as their proper botanical names.
While issue can (and should) be readily taken with some of these, it is our intention to:
    a) present all possible names that might be encountered
    and
    b) present the current accepted synonymity with a future mind towards illuminating the errors & incongruities that exist.
Corrections will be deferred until a later date when adequate photographic support & taxonomic arguments supporting the assertions can be completed. (Work on insertion of synonymy has barely begun.)

We have finally (in late December of 2007) begun the task of uploading, labeling and linking the replacements for the thousands of photo links we lost some years ago.
We will also be adding several thousand more new ones; including MANY flowering & fruiting pictures.

As fast as time allows, the listed items will have descriptions added and/or created. This has already begun and viewers can locate these by clicking on the describer name in the binomial epithats.

As we replace the old pages with new ones many links will temporarily cease to work until we complete the process. Please bear with us.

Some species have been transfered to other genera such as Helianthocereus. (Synonymity is not yet indicated on the list but eventually will be)

(Assembly of this list is still in progress)
