    Trichocereus puquiensis

      Trichocereus puquiensis Rauh & Backbg. n. sp.

      Latin Diagnosis:


      To 4 meters tall, many branched, glaucus;
      Branches to 15 cm thick
      8-10 Ribs, somewhat thickened around the areoles, lacking grooves;
      Areoles around 1 cm in diameter, spines start chestnut colored, radial spines up to 10, 1-2 cm long, starting brown tinged with grey or black;
      Usually two central spines, one is erect, up to 10 cm long, the other curves downward, to 5-8 cm long;
      White flower;
      Tube to 10 cm long, to 2.5 cm diameter, very dark hairs;
      Exterior segments of the perigon with red-green below, green above, interior is white
      Stigma lobes are greenish
      Style is green
      Anthers are yellow
      Southern Peru (Puquio Valley, 3300 m)
      Type K 119 (1956)

      Differs from T. cuzcoensis by having more ribs, longer central spines, bases not swollen
